I am so excited about this board. Raising a TS child has many challenges -- adding an adequate education to that can sometimes feel close to impossible for some of us. Amongst the attention getting tics, bullying and the inability to keep still and concentrate, it's understandable how our children can become quite disruptive by the days end.
I recently read an article of a system in a British school where the Tourette child is given a 'Pass Card'. When He/She needs a private break to let some 'tics' out, they show the pass to the teacher, who immediately excuses them to the bathroom.
The best accommodation for my child was being allowed to sit up front and work on her sketches while lectures and instruction were given. It's hard to describe, but it was as if our daughter's tics were 'reborn' into the constant habit of drawing. The natural movement of drawing allowed her to let her tics out without the embarrassment from classmates. This was her gift and she continues to this day to use this talent in many ways.
Please share any accommodations that have been helpful to your TS child here. Thanks!
